To celebrate International Women’s Day 2016, the Australian Embassy in Berlin proudly presents an exhibition of documentary, live performance and portrait photographs, by Australian “Wahlberlinerinnen Megan Spencer and Kate Seabrook.

“There is a community of the spirit. Join it, and feel the delight of walking in the noisy street, and being the noise.” (Rumi)

Inspired by the “circus folk” and “flower punks” amongst us, the photographers capture powerful moments of those who venture into the world with something to say, adorned in the livery of the unabashed and the fearless.

A diverse community with a fierce communal heart, Megan and Kate pay homage to it in over 30 colour and monochrome photographs. With the spotlight squarely on female performers, the exhibition includes vibrant photographic impressions and portraits of Berlin’s “poor but sexy” musicians, comedians, riot grrrls, “Kabarettisten”, writers, poets, street performers, backyard choralists, dreamers and more.

Not to forget their roots, Kate and Megan will also be showing selected images from their homeland, Australia.

Regardless of which city they call home, those depicted share fascinating everyday stories that speak of the passion, inspiration and courage cultivated by their artistic calling.
